United Ex-Super Falcons Worldwide has sent words of appreciation to the Nigeria Football Federation for the quick settlement of the Super Falcons their share of $1m prize money of the 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations held in Morocco in July.
The Super Falcons captained by Rasheedat Ajibade made Nigeria proud by winning the team’s 10th title of the tournament and reminding other nations, Nigerian women were still on top of their game in Africa. They came back from a two goals deficit in the first half to beat the hosts 3-2 in a dramatic final at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
Speaking on the prompt payment of the 30 percent share; United Ex-Super Falcons, chairperson Mrs. Patience Avre-Odeli said the NFF did the right thing by paying the team a few weeks after the tournament.
Said she: “We, the members of United Ex-Super Falcons (Worldwide), are very happy with the present leadership of NFF for promptly paying the 10th WAFCON title-winning team in a record time. This is a step in the right direction and a trend we would like to continue in the years ahead.”
The former Super Falcons attacker who won two WAFCON titles in her active years urged the Gusau-led NFF Executive Committee to sustain the current tempo of paying the Super Falcons as at and when due, pointing out that this is the best way to maintain harmony in the team.
The former Princess Jegede Babes, Lagos and Ufuoma Babes FC of Warri attacke, whose generation was the first Super Falcons team to win the WAFCON trophy in 1998 and also qualify Nigeria for the quarter-finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in UnitedStatesin1999, said although it was unfortunate that the past NFF leadership and federal government failed to compensate them during their time, they are happy with the huge financial rewards the present generation of Super Falcons are receiving from the federation, government and corporate bodies.
