African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate in the 2023 presidential election, Dumebi Kachikwu, has claimed that former President Goodluck Jonathan wants Peter Obi, to drop out from the 2027 race and become his minister if he Jonathan, wins in 2027.
There has been speculations Dr Jonathan who was President between 2009 and 2015 will return to contest the election. Kachukwu alleged that Jonathan has urged Obi to kill his ambition in 2027 in exchange for being Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, Kachikwu claimed that Northern political interests drafted Jonathan into the contest as a strategy to weaken the South’s influence.
“In order to weaken the South, they have now drafted in former President Jonathan into the race who is alleged to be offering Peter Obi the position of Coordinating Minister of the Economy for him to support his ambition,” he said.
“A Peter Obi has been told in very clear terms that he will never get northern votes as an Ibo man, and as such, he should accept to be Atiku’s running mate,” he added.
Kachukwu said Atiku and the northern elites ahead the 2027 election is playing the ethnic card in a bid to win power.
“They use the weapons of region, religion, tongue, tribe and poverty as they convince millions of poor Northerners that a southern President Tinubu hates them and is the cause of their poverty,” Kachikwu charged.
Meanwhile Jonathan who was recently appointed by the United Nations as ambassador for global crisis in June distance himself from running for President a second time in 2027.
