Former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections has urged qualified Nigerian professionals to hold back if they have better opportunities abroad.
Obi was speaking against the backdrop of advice by President Bola Tinubu to Nigerian youths not to travel abroad after their studies.
“I have always told the Nursing Council not to restrict you people from travelling abroad after graduation. If it is not going to work for you here, go to where it will work for you,” said Obi during a ceremony at the Peter University, Achina, Anambra State.
“We will not advise anyone to stay where it is difficult for them. If you want to seek greener pastures outside, please go. I’m sure that when we build a greater Nigeria, you will come back.”
Due to better pay and better living conditions abroad young Nigerians professionals have sought greener pastures, a development which has affected the country. President Tinubu appealed to graduates of Nigerian universities to exercise patriotism and avoid the temptation of seeking greener pastures outside the country.
This was contained in the president’s address at the 29th and 30th combined convocation ceremony of the University of Uyo on Saturday.
