Juju music legend King Sunny Ade has revealed his close musical relationship with late diva Onyeka Onwenu, who passed away on July 30, while performing at a function in Lagos.
KSA recently paid a condolence visit with members of the Music Copyright Society of Nigeria including Orits Williki, Mayo Ayilaran, Kenny “Keke” Ogungbe, and Tee Mac,
He said: “I can’t explain it; you know if they give you the news of the death of a loved one who has to do with your life and also your work.
“She’s not just an ordinary woman; she was someone who would sit down with you and she used to say, ‘Can I chip in some advice?’ and the advice was always correct.”
She used to do more than I did; when it comes to music that people do together, she used to do more. She would tap me and say, ‘Sunny, let’s take it this way,’ and it was always good.”
Back in 1989 Sunny Ade and Onyeka Onwenu collaborated on the hit song “Wait for Me,” a message song meant to sensitise citizens on the need for planned parenthood.
