Two persons suffered severe burns and property worth millions of naira destroyed when a gas carrying tanker exploded at the Mobil Petrol Station opposite Airport Hotel near Allen Junction Ikeja, Lagos Thursday morning.
The explosion, which involved a 12-ton tanker, occurred while it was trying to discharge into a storage tank at the petrol station at about 11.am. Men of the Lagos State fire services battled for three hours to bring the flames under control. Several vehicles on queue were destroyed and a nearby two story building was also affected.
“Fire service teams from Alausa and Ikeja Fire Stations acted quickly to control the blaze. As of the latest update, efforts to dampen the affected area are ongoing,” said Director of Lagos Fire Service, Margaret Adeseye.
