Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi said President Bola Tinubu needs to give account of the ₦15.8 trillion subsidy savings and how loans amounting to over $100 billion has been spent by his administration.
Writing on X Obi said despite increased government revenues from taxation and other sources, the government of President Tinubu has failed to deliver better living conditions for Nigerians and he needs to explains what was done with the funds.
“Most importantly Tinubu need to explain what his administration has done with the ₦15.8 trillion saved from the removal of fuel subsidy, the over $100bn you have borrowed, the increased revenues accruing to the government from taxing Nigerians, and the additional government revenues which your administration celebrated last year as having surpassed its target,” the former Anambra governor wrote on X.
Obi added that Tinubu’s government was failing in power supply to the people and Nigerians need to take his word to vote him out if he doesn’t fix the electricity defict.
“They also deserve an explanation of how much electricity supply has improved, especially given your promise that if you do not fix power, Nigerians should not vote for you.”
Meanwhile speaking in Dutse, Jigawa State NDC vice presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso has called on Nigerians not to make the mistake of voting for Tinubu in 2027.
According to him, Tinubu plans to introduce his taxation agenda, saying he only delayed for fear of losing the 2027 election.
“The bill has been passed into law, but the Federal Government is now afraid of losing the election. That is why it has delayed the collection,” he said.
“As soon as they get a second chance, God forbid, Nigerians will suffer from different kinds of tax collection. They will start going from house to house, checking even under your bed to collect taxes,” he added.
“The worst part of it is that the session for the approval of the tax bill was chaired by one of us from Kano. Even the Senate President intentionally refused to attend because he did not want to be part of it,” Kwankwaso alleged.
