Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has called for an end to thuggery in Nigerian politics after his convoy ran into machete yielding youths in Calabar, Cross River State.
A viral video of the incident saw the youths dressed in black t-shirts and face coverings smashed vehicles in Obi’s convoy with machetes and firing gun shots after Obi left the Calabar Airport for the venue of where he planned a town hall meeting with supporters ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking at the town hall meeting later on Obi stated: “They were throwing stones, and I saw people running back. And my security people said we should find another way because they have machetes and other things.
“I asked, ‘In Nigeria? I am coming down to go and meet them.’ By the time they saw what was happening, they left. “All these things happened because Nigerians allow it. We are not going to allow it in 2027.”

Obi his wife Margaret and running mate Rabiu Kwankwason were in Calabar for the town hall meeting one of the stops in their cross country of the country. The brush in Calabar is the second since Obi started his meet the people tour.
In June Obi was blocked by thugs allegedly sent by the Benue State governor. The Benue State Commissioner of Police, Cletus Nwadiogbu, subsequently disclosed that no fewer than 46 suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident.
