Following the horrendous collision that led to the death of Tenerife striker Jesus De Miguel Tuesday morning, Spanish police said they would be investigating the incident.
This is just as Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono who ran all the way from his goal area to collide with De Miguel is said to be saddened by the episode, even as he has been targeted online.
The incident occurred Monday during a Spanish second division league match between Tenerife and Andorra at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez. De Miguel was chasing a ball played with Andorra’s defence already beaten when Owono came out to intercept the ball, and the striker took a heavy blow to the chest.
The game was abandoned in the 108th minute, with the score at 2-2 as De Miguel was being taken to the hospital. He later died on Tuesday morning.

Owono Equatorial Guinea international was seen crying and praying in the dressing room and he remains distraught as he could be facing as much as eight games ban according to Guillem Balague, a renowned Spanish journalist.
The police said since death is involved there has to be an investigation to determine whether it was an accident or Owono hit the late striker with intent.
Before training on Tuesday Real Madrid observed a minute of silence for the player.
“I think it’s something very shocking for the world in general, so imagine for the world of football, for people like us who are on the pitch competing every day,” Real Madrid coach Mourinho told reporters.
“It’s hard, it’s sad. Obviously, all our words and feelings go out to the family and friends of the player who passed away, and I also think this has to be a very, very, very difficult moment for the other player (Owono) involved in the situation.
“It’s sad for everyone.”
