Several police officers have been murdered in cold blood and unspecified number also taken hostage after they were ambushed while travelling in a commercial bus in Zamfara.
The killings occurred on Monday when the officers travelling from Sokoto to Gusau, ran into the bandits along the Sokoto–Gusau road. The bloodied bodies of the officers and their belongs were seen littering the scene of the crime.
According to sources the officers were on their way to the venue of the All-Progressive Congress primary election in Zamfara North Senatorial District to provide security when they met their deaths.
When contacted, the Zamfara State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer said the command was not authorised to comment on the matter, as it falls under the jurisdiction of the zonal command.
The Zone 10 PPRO, Abdullahi Ambursa, who confirmed the incident, however, said he was currently in the hospital and would not be able to comment further, but promised to issue an official statement later.
