Following his impressive performance in Chelsea’s 2-0 win against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge coach Xabi Alonso admitted the Estevao deserves more game time.
Alonso had often been called out for not playing the 19-year-old Brazilian raising star. On Saturday Estevao got his first start of the season and he showed what the team has been missing.
He scored two goals that were ruled offside, created three chances and registered six shots at goal; and when he was substituted, he was given a standing ovation by Chelsea fans.
“He had the best response and showed that he deserves more and that he was prepared, and that is what we want from our players. So, we’re very happy for him,” Alonso told Chelsea’s official website.
“He deserves to enjoy this game; he had a good connection with the crowd and was really close to scoring his goal
“He fought really hard and at the end he was tired, but it has been a good day for him.
However, the Blues boss insisted that Saturday’s selection had already been planned, rather than being a reaction to the criticism surrounding his recent decisions.
