A school bus driver identified as Onome Lucky is neck deep in police trouble after allegedly kidnapping 14-year-old girl, a student at the school that employed him.
According to Delta State police spokesperson Bright Edafe the incident occurred last week Tuesday in Sapele. The suspect who was only employed in September by the school, also sexually assaulted the minor he had picked from her home, drove her to destination where he took advantage of her.
“Onome Lucky went to the house of a certain young girl, aged 14 years, carried her, and instead of taking her to school, he took her to a bush, called the father of the girl that his child had been kidnapped,” Mr. Edafe said.
“It didn’t end there. He went ahead and violently defiled the 14-year-old girl. In the midst of all her begging and pleading, he disvirgined that girl violently and also collected a ransom of N173,000 after demanding for N200,000.”
After collecting the ransom money, he abandoned the distressed minor along Aton Road Sapele and went into hiding. However, his lucky ran out when the police traced him to a brothel where he hid.
The suspect confessed to the crime during preliminary interrogations. The school’s principal and vice-principal have also been invited for questioning, and arrangements are being finalized to transfer the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Asaba for prosecution
