While Nigerian and international efforts are focused on preventing the spread of Ebola in Nigeria, it has been revealed that the woman who brought the deadly Ebola Bundibugyo virus to Abuja is married to Swiss diplomat and they both travelled together.
According to reports the woman originally from Uganda had been to the Congo Democratic Republic where the authorities there are battling with widespread epidermic. She spent two weeks in that country holidaying before returning to Abuja on October 3 with her husband. She was hospitalised on October 9 after showing symptoms.
World Health Organisation representative in Nigeria Pavel Ursu, said the organisation was not aware she spent two weeks in Uganda.
“The information supplied to WHO did not include travel to another country (other than Uganda).”
“The facts which we have received is that the patient returned to Abuja on October 3 being away from September 16 in Uganda,” Ursu said in a press conference.
Ursu said the focus in Nigeria was now on containing the viral infection and that the patient remained hospitalised, with her biochemical markers improving.
