Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez says he will return to action “in a few weeks” after undergoing successful surgery for a broken jaw sustained during Saturday’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Everton.
Martinez was stretched out of the pitch after he collided with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
In a social media post on Sunday, the goalkeeper thanked fans for their messages and expressed relief at the outcome of the operation.
His Chelsea teammates and fans were relieved that he did not suffer any significant damage to the head, neck or back following the impact of the collision and the length of time required to give him first aid before been taken to the hospital.
“Thanks to everyone for the messages, the operation went well,” Martinez said. “The most important thing is that we won and with a bow at 0. We’ll be back in a few weeks.”
Chelsea beat Everton 2-0 with Pedro Neto scoring both goals.
