US rapper and singer Nicki Minaj said her link with Nigeria remains strong because of her pastor who is from the West African country.
Minaj who is known to have made strong statements about “killing of Christians” in Nigeria middle best declared her love for the country at press conference last weekend in Texas.
“My pastor is from Nigeria, so I have a link to Nigeria because of him. And of course I have a lot of Nigerian Barbz,” the 43-year-old said, referring to her global fanbase by their well-known nickname.
She went on to describe how disturbing content about religious violence in the country had gradually drawn her attention.
“What I started seeing was the brutality in which Christians are being treated there just for being Christian. And I thought, why isn’t anyone making a big deal out of this?” she spoke.
In 2025 Minaj spoke at a United Nations panel discussing the religeous crisis in Nigeria.
She has also used her social media platforms consistently to highlight what she describes as targeted attacks on Christian communities in the country.
