A Kenyan presidential candidate Patrick Osoi has vowed to send Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote packing from his country, if he was sworn in as President next year.
Dangote on September 30 performed the ground-breaking ceremony of a $16 billion oil refinery in Lamu, Kenya with the backing of Kenyan President William Ruto, this is with the aim of making Kenya to become an oil hub for the East African region.
But according to Mr Osoi a former US army armourer and now a businessman, Dangote must not be in rush to build on Kenya soil.
“I want to tell Aliko Dangote, please don’t rush to start the refinery because, when I’m sworn in as President of Kenya next year, you will be heading back to Nigeria,” said Osoi while addressing his supporters.
“We Kenyans have businesspeople who can start the refinery. We also have businesspeople in this country who can do that job. This is what we stand for. This is the home of all movements.”
Before the groundbreaking ceremony the proposed refinery received a cold reception from locals who accused Dangote of taking their ancestral lands without adequate compensation and also raising environmental concerns.
A Kenyan court has also ordered the maintenance of the status quo in a land dispute involving the project.
