National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) agents have arrested an 83-year-old grandmother, Mrs. Uloma Uchechi Sunday, for the second time for an alleged possession of Methamphetamine and ‘Colorado.’
The arrest is coming a year after she was convicted and fined for a similar offence. She was arrested on October 7 at her residence in Ite-Uzo, Umuaguama, Obingwa LGA of Abia State. When she was accosted by the NDLEA, the drugs were found concealed in waist band covered with her wrapper.
According to the NDLEA, the latest brush with the law followed intelligence report linking her to a drug supply chain patronised by criminals.
Mrs Uchechi Sunday had previously been arrested on May 17, 2025, alongside her 32-year-old daughter, Chisom Uchechi, at the same residence. Authorities recovered 50g of Methamphetamine, 522g of skunk, 260g of fresh cannabis leaves and 12g of tramadol from them.
The mother and daughter reportedly pleaded guilty and were each sentenced to 12 months in prison or a ₦200,000 fine. They paid the fines and regained their freedom.
“Undeterred, the notorious old woman promptly returned to the criminal trade and escalated the scale by setting up a drug joint where she harbours dangerous characters,” said NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi.
The NDLEA also disclosed that a South African, Gebashe Sithandiwe Jessie, was arrested with 30 parcels of Thai Loud, a type of cannabis weighing 32.74kg at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, Rivers State.
The suspect reportedly arrived from Thailand through Doha on a Qatar Airways flight and allegedly admitted that she had previously trafficked drugs through other African countries before attempting to expand her route to Port Harcourt.
