Gombe State University’s centre for gender studies has urged students and staff to promptly report any form of sexual harassment based on the institution’s policy at protecting students from sexploitation.
Dr Aishatu Abubakar-Kumo who is director of the centre said students and staff need to understand what is sexual harassment and how to prevent it.
“We want to make sure that almost everybody is aware of the policy and understands the rules and regulations and abides by them so that we can have a peaceful and respectful environment where students can feel free to study and live like a home,” Dr. Abubakar-Kumo said during an awareness campaign walk on Wednesday.
“Even as a bystander, if you see something happening, what do you do? How can you help? You can just say a word or two. If you can find a way of reporting it, our doors are open.”
She added that 50 help desk have been opened across the main campus and other locations.
