Ondo State governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Wednesday joined rescuers in search of the Air Force 931 aircraft that went down in a swampy terrain in Igokoda Ilaje Local Government Area.
So far, the main body of the aircraft is yet to be found, not a single intact body also found other than body parts, clothing and aircrafts fittings littering an expanse of the crash site.
“The aircraft has still not been sighted as of the time of my visit, while Navy personnel and local divers continued searching the deeper sections for possible bodies and the cockpit,” governor Aiyedatiwa said.
“The nature and depth of the swamp could have caused the aircraft to become deeply submerged in the mud
“From construction experience and analysis of this area, for you to get to refusal level, it will get to about 30 kilometres deep.
“May their souls rest in peace.”
Meanwhile as speculations on what caused the devastating nature of crash continues, Navy Commodore Promise Dapper rtd, said nothing should be ruled out, saying it might even be an explosion.
“The crash is being investigated, but you cannot rule everything out; all the cards have to be on the table. You cannot rule out sabotage; air attack, you cannot rule out anything.
“You cannot even rule out bombing because, from what some of the eyewitnesses are saying, they are seeing wreckage splinters of the aircraft while it was still in the air, and most of these splinters are found in far-flung villages and nearby places before the aircraft even got on the ground,” he told Channels TV.
