A combined team of the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS) and Amotekun Western Security Network, has wiped out Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents in Owo, Ondo State.
Acting on intelligence the team storm the ISWAP hide out and encircled the terror gang killing their leader Abdussamad Ohida also known as Anwar who was planning terror attacks in some southern States. Many of his gang members were also killed in the surprised attack on their camp by the security agents.
Anwar was deputy to ISWAP Central Nigeria leader Abu Ikrimah, also known as Abu Uwais who was arrested by the DSS in 2023.
“The plan was to attack civilians during the festive period and ultimately disrupt the 2027 general elections. This Intelligence was corroborated by intelligence partners from the United Kingdom, who supported the elimination operation,” said security sources.
Anwar has been terrorising the the Owo axis before his meeting his waterloo. On December 31, 2025, he bombed the Ipele Divisional Police Station, Owo and carted away eight AK-47 rifles. He also planned several other attacks in the Niger State, Kogi and Kwara.
“We may not immediately realize it, but the elimination of Abdussamad Ohida represents a significant disruption to ISWAP’s leadership structure, operational network and expansion efforts in central and southern Nigeria.
“Ohida’s elimination, coming a few months after after the killing of ISIS leader Abu Bilal al-Minuki, is a very big blow to ISWAP’s efforts to expand its operational presence in Nigeria, and underscores the growing efficiency of our security services,” the source added.
