Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory police said a 12-year-old girl rescued while being sexually abused by one Zayyanu Halilu has been confirmed three months pregnant.
FCT police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh disclosed in a statement Saturday that officers of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit had on October 2, while on routine patrol in the Airport Bridge Taxi Park area, observed a fully tinted navy-blue Volkswagen vehicle with registration number KMC567LQ parked with its Windows wound up.
The PPRO said the officers suspected foul play when they observed that the vehicle was shaking.
She said the officers subsequently approached the vehicle and opened it, “only to see one Zayyanu Halilu raping a twelve-year-old minor.”
“Following the discovery, the suspect was promptly arrested and the victim was rescued,” the PPRO said.
According to her, “a preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had, on several occasions, lured and sexually abused the under aged victim in the said vehicle parked at the same location, with threats to “deal with her” if she reveals the abuse to anyone.
“Medical examination also revealed that the victim is about three months pregnant as a result of the abuse.
“The victim is currently receiving medical care and assessment, while the suspect remains in Police custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.”
