Nigeria army officers are smiling to the bank following alerts confirming recent approved pay rise by President Bola Tinubu.
According to reports the soldiers have seen their September salaries increase by 30-80 percent, and this has triggered jubilations for those in the barracks and those on Frontline duties.
The implementation of the new salary scale, which took effect on September 1, 2026 will see a soldier at the rank of Private, who previously earned about ₦103,000 monthly, now receives approximately ₦190,000, while a Lance Corporal whose former salary stood at around ₦110,000 is now earning about ₦202,000.
President Bola Tinubu’s special assistant on social media, Dada Olusegun, confirmed development on Thursday.
“I can categorically confirm that personnel of the Nigerian Military have now started receiving their newly increased salaries as approved by President @officialABAT in August,” Olusegun wrote in a post on X.
“Another critical factor that is expected to boost the morale of our frontline forces as we continue to win the war against insecurity,” he added.
Officers above the rank of Colonel, including Brigadier-General, Major-General, Lieutenant-General and General, are to benefit from a 30 per cent increase.
About 250,000 military personnel are expected to benefit from the revised salary structure.
The Presidency disclosed that the adjustment would raise the Armed Forces’ annual salary bill from ₦660 billion to ₦924 billion.
