The central figure in the alleged fake Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) saga, Mr. Adeniyi Adeyemi Wednesday appeared at a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja in his ongoing case of forgery and impersonation.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) arraigned the embattled “director-general” who earlier in the year raised a lot of dust concerning agency, which government said does not exists. Mr. Adeyemi had insisted that President Bola Tinubu’s chief of staff, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila was an active participant in the alleged scam. Gbajabiamila denied ever meeting or speaking to Mr. Adeyemi who later arrested and detained by the police.
Mr. Adeyemi pleaded not guilty to the eight-count charge slapped on him by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, which requested an accelerated hearing of the case. Adeyemi’s lawyer Genesis Francis, pleaded with the court to hear his client’s bail application on Wednesday, because Mr. Adeyemi needed medical attention to treat a contagious disease.
Responding, lead prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, said Adeymi was a “flight risk” adding that the police have qualified medical personnel capable of attending to Adeyemi’s condition, adding that medical facilities are also available at the correctional centre.
Presiding judge Justice Mohammed Umar declined to hear the bail application. He adjourned the case until October 12 for the hearing of the bail application and the substantive suit.
