Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle said he was shocked by his team’s capitulation in Tuesday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea Bissau in Bissau where they lost 3-0, the worse defeat the team had suffered in recent times.
The Super Eagles were totally outclassed by their opponents in Bissau and according to Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles must have to win their remaining matches if they hope to qualify for the 2027 AFCON.
The warning sign was there against Madagascar last Friday in their first game of the qualifiers in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The Super Eagles struggled, but for the brilliance of George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor who responded after Madagascar had gone ahead, it would have been another take down and six points lost.
“Guinea Bissau was far better than us, they were very aggressive, we were never in the game, and we never found a solution,” Chelle stated.
“This is the first time I am seeing my team play like this. It was a bad day for us.”
He also blamed the condition of the pitch and the hot weather, which affected the team players hence their sluggish moves.
“The pitch was very bad for us it was our first time on it and there was bad weather, but Guinea Bissau were used to it… When we tried to play, but our payers were never in the state of mind to go forward.”
However, Chelle assured that his team will bounce back in their remaining games.
“This is not the end we have to win against Tanzania in November and Guinea Bissau in Uyo. We have to beat them in Uyo put them in the same condition. we have four games to play, and we have to stay focus.”
