A 33-year-old housewife Hauwa’u Haruna has been detained by the Police in Bauchi for allegedly killing her co-housewife Jamila Adamu with pestle during a domestic dispute.
According to the Police the incident occurred Sunday September 27 following an altercation between the wives at their Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate in Bauchi metropolis residence. Hauwa’u who is the second wife picked up a pestle and struck her 43-year-old housemate on the forehead, while she was seated with her daughters in the living room.
A statement issued by the Command’s spokesman, SP Nafiu Habib, said victim collapsed and became unresponsive following the
attack. He added that detectives from C-Division were immediately deployed to the scene after receiving information about the incident.
They rushed the victim to the hospital after securing evidence of the attack. Doctors at the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, confirmed that the Adamu was already dead.
The police said preliminary findings indicated that the suspect allegedly acted while experiencing hallucinations; but further investigation is on to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and also for a possible prosecution. However, according to reports Hauwa’u had attacked her housemate with pestle before the latest incident.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condoled with the family of the deceased, urging residents to seek timely medical and psychosocial support for relatives experiencing mental health challenges.
