Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi has been told to make good his vow to resign from his ambition to be President, if it was proven he left a debt profile in Anambra State after his tenure as governor.
The Anambra State government under Prof. Charles Chukuma Soludo Tuesday released a document on the backlog of workers salaries owed during Mr. Obi’s tenure, it had previously released a document on a $123.7m debt allegedly left by Obi.
“WHEN WILL PETER OBI QUIT PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN?” the Anambra State government wrote on its X social media page.
“He vowed to quit the presidential race if proven he left Anambra in debt. As governor, he vowed to resign if workers weren’t paid on time. He broke both. He left office in 2014 with heavier arrears. He deceived people. He is LIAR!!”
On Monday All Progressives Congress presidential campaign council called on Obi to quit following the revelations.
But according to Idris Zekeri Jr, Obi’s media adviser, such calls from the APC and President Bola Tinubu’s men as misplaced given that their APC presidential candidate carries baggage of infamy more than any Nigerian politician on the ballot.
He said the people who worked with Obi during his tenure are preparing a detailed response to the claims made by the Anambra government.
