Thugs allegedly acting on the promptings of the All-Progressives Congress Thursday, clashed with Nigeria Democratic Congress supporters along the Airport Road in Effurun Warri Delta State
The NDC was embarking on a “one million man” march when they ran into the thugs. Video clips of the clash circulating on social media saw NDC supporters moving menacing towards the thugs who then made a retreat.
A voice could be heard narrating in the video: “Look at the thugs, they came to attack us. The security [personnel] are watching. We must face them. We are fully ready for them.”
Speaking on the clash NDC House of Representatives candidate for Ughelli/Udu Federal Constituency, Dr. Obiuwevbi Ominimini, pointed accusing fingers at the Delta State governor, Sheriff Oborevwori and the APC for sponsoring the thugs. The Delta State government and its agency are yet to respond to the allegations.
“We hold Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the APC responsible for mobilising thugs to attack our members during the peaceful 1,000,000-Man March in Effurun,” Ominimini said.
He said despite the attack the NDC will not be intimidated, he called on security agencies to halt the assault on democracy.
Ominimini urged supporters to remain peaceful and law-abiding, stressing that the party would continue to mobilise voters across Delta State.
