Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi said he would step away from contesting the 2027 presidential election if anyone could come forward, he collected money from Nigerians in the diaspora.
Obi who was speaking in Washington DC, Obi denied he was in the USA to solicit for funds to run his campaign.
“People are saying that on my current trip to America, I have gone there to collect money from Nigerians in the diaspora.
“If anyone can show me one person in America who gave me even one dollar, I will end my 2027 campaign.
“I am using my own resources and paying all my bills, I am running around the world, trying to do the right thing.”
Meanwhile speaking in another forum Mr. Obi has asked the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and other higher institutions he attended to release every document in his academic file, including how he gained admission and his results from first year to graduation.
“I’m begging the University of Nigeria to make available every document in my file, how I was admitted and all my results from year one to final year,” he said.
He maintained that public office holders should be willing to expose their records to public examination.
“If you seek public life, you should subject yourself to public scrutiny because you are a leader and you must exemplify the values that make society work,” he said.
