American sprint star Masai Russell practically stamped her authority on the women’s 100m hurdles after she claimed the top spot of the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship at Gyula Zsivotzky National Athletics Centre in Budapest on Friday 11 September.
In Zurich August 27 the reigning Olympic champion broke the world record with 12.09 seconds and running against Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan whom she took the world best time from; she powered her way over the sticks and finished at 12.22 seconds. Amusan chased Massai down, but there wasn’t going to be any upset. Amusan was consoled placing second with 12.34s seconds, while Dutch Nadine Visser claimed third in 12.39.
Russel finished her season unbeaten over the 100m hurdles.
