Central Bank of Nigeria said it has nothing to do with a viral document claiming that it approved the release of $46 billion to a private concern for national empowerment projects.
A document dated August 13, 2026, circulating online claimed that the CBN governor Yemi Cardoso has approved the sum to Atufeg Empowerment and Development Center and one Amb. Engr. Atunde Femi Gabriel for the implementation of “national empowerment and developmental projects.”
“The CBN confirms full endorsement and authorises the immediate transfer of these funds to the beneficiary’s designated account,” the forged document had claimed.
But a statement put out by the CBN on its X social media platform noted that the document was fake and misleading the public.
“This content is fake. Let the public be guided.
This is coming on the heels of several firms coming out to disown documents linked to their organisations.

On August 31, Opay dismissed a notice circulating online claiming that it will suspend transactions and account-related services from September 1, 2026, is false. A 27-years-old lady Hasfat Abubakar has been arrested by the police in connection with the false information.
