Despite the cry of desperation from Nigerians in all works of life for relief from insecurity and economic hardships the Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) said they are backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in 2027.
According to CBCN president-general Archbishop Leonard Bature Kawas, the Charismatic Bishops had initially expressed concern about the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the All-Progressives Congress candidate, but based on his handling of religious diversity, government appointments and efforts to tackle insecurity, they are all in for a Tinubu continuation.
“We support him now. We support him today. We support him tomorrow. And we support him for as long as he’s willing to be our president,” said Kawas at the grand finale of the 2026 Synod of the CBCN and International Communion of Charismatic Archbishops, Bishops and Apostles (ICCABA) in Abuja.
“Even come 2027, we will still be standing with him. And so, it is safe to say that this house has endorsed him for 2027 president.”
He acknowledged that Nigerians are facing economic and social difficulties and government should involve religious leaders since they served as point of contact to ordinary Nigerians.
President Tinubu who was represented at the occasion by the secretary to the federal government George Akume said government was aware of the hardships facing Nigerians and its doing much with its reforms aimed at correcting structural weaknesses and creating a more sustainable economy.
