Nigerian elite athletes are set to vie for track and field honours and the $150, 000 at stake at the 2026 World Athletics Ultimate Championships billed for September 11-13 in Budapest, Hungary.
The Ultimate challenge making its debut in the Hungarian capital will feature the world’s best elite athletes these include Olympics and world champions, athletes from the Diamond League and those selected according to the world rankings. There are no preliminary heats.
The Nigerian team features a blend of established stars and emerging talents across individual and mixed relay events.
Leading the women’s contingent is former world record holder Tobi Amusan, who is listed for the women’s 100m hurdles as well as the mixed 4x100m event.
The men’s 100m will see Kanyinsola Ajayi carry Nigeria’s hopes, while Udodi Onwuzurike will be competing in the men’s 200m and the 100m mixed relay.
Ella Onojuwvevwo will compete in the women’s 400m, while Ezekiel Nathaniel takes on the men’s 400m hurdles.
Nigeria’s mixed 4x100m team comprises Alaba Akintola, Favour Ashe, Miracle Ezechukwu, Udodi Onwuzurike, Rosemary Nwankwo and Tobi Amusan, providing the country with another opportunity to challenge for honours on the international stage.
The selection brings together several athletes who have already established themselves at major international competitions, with Ajayi, Ashe, Amusan, Nathaniel and Onwuzurike among the names expected to attract attention.
