French authorities have intercepted a shipment of cocaine weighing thousands of kilograms aboard a cargo ship, which sailed from Ghana to Antwerp, Belgium.
According to reports by Dutch media outfit De Telegraf the shipment was suspected to have been made by a wanted Dutch drug lord Jos Leijdekkers a.k.a ‘Bolle Jos’ who is believed to be hiding in Sierra Leone.
The French customs acting on intelligence boarded the ship, which was making a stop at the port of Dunkirk in northern France before reaching its final stop in Antwerp. The seizure of the consignment is biggest made so far in the past few weeks by the French customs.
Jos Leijdekkers is on the list of most wanted drug lords in Europe and has been sentenced in absentia by the Rotterdam District Court to 24 years in prison for six cocaine shipments of cocaine totalling almost 7,000 kg, among other crimes.
Both Europol and the Dutch authorities are offering 200,000 euros for a tip that could lead to Leijdekkers’s arrest.
