Top striker Victor Osimhen is now on a race to be fit for the Champions League tie between Sporting Lisbon and his club Galatasaray on September 9 after suffering a groin injury.
Osimhen hopped off the pitch during Friday night’s Turkey League tie against Istanbul Başakşehir. Galatasaray won 3-2 with Osimhen scoring in the 16th minute to give Galatasaray an early lead. But now they are sweating on his fitness.
“Advanced examinations, including MRI, for our players Victor Osimhen and Mario Lemina, in whom strain and pain were detected in the right adductor (groin) muscle…treatments have begun, will be completed tomorrow,” Galatasaray said in a statement.
It normally takes a week to three weeks for a groin injury to heal.
Meanwhile former Beşiktaş midfielder Sinan Engin has warned Galatasaray to handle Osimhen with care since he is crucial to their campaign.
Speaking on the Asist Analiz YouTube channel he said: “Galatasaray without Osimhen is like a car running on gas! It’s like putting a gas conversion kit on a brand-new car for fuel economy!
“You’d say to the driver, ‘You bought this car, and you’re thinking about the cost of gas?’
“It’s the same thing. His performance will suffer. Galatasaray will have to treat Osimhen like a precious gem.”
