Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho on Thursday warned central defender Raul Asencio to behave himself after he tested positive to drink-driving and also escaped a sexual misconduct charge.
While holidaying on the Canary Island in August Acencio was driving with four-times the legal permitted limits of alcohol in his blood.
And on Thursday he was lucky to escape jail time or fine as prosecutors dropped a sexual misconduct charge against him. Asencio was accused of sharing a video of sexual content without the victims’ consent.
When asked about the issue in his conference ahead of Real Madrid’s La Liga game away to Betis on Friday night, Mourinho was clear on his opinion.
“We all make mistakes, but when they accumulate… that’s another story,” Mourinho said.
The coach advised the player that he had a duty to behave both on and off the football pitch.
“A Real Madrid player is a Real Madrid player 24 hours a day. What you do off the pitch can damage your reputation and the club’s. I’m not happy,” he said, adding that “the club has opened an investigation, and in the meantime, he’s a Real Madrid player.”
