National Sports Commission top echelons have met with FIFA president Gianni Infantino to brief the world football governing body on the recent “Tsunami” that hit the Nigeria Football Federation.
According to a statement Tuesday the NFF said FIFA and Confederation of African Football have no quarrels with the mass resignation of the NFF executive board headed by Ibrahim Gusau and are ready to engage Nigeria football officials to chart a way forward for the country’s damaged football development.
Following Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the men’s and women’s FIFA World Cup, and other age grade competitions the Gusau led board was pressured to resign last week.
There were speculations FIFA might not be welcoming to the forced resignation of the executive committee members and heads of various league bodies.
“@thenff has debunked news of a “letter” circulating in sections of the media as being from world-football governing body, FIFA on rejecting the resignations. It is totally fake,” NFF posted on its X social media platform.
“FIFA has already accepted the resignations of former principal officers and Members of the NFF Exco, and mutual engagement between the NSC, NFF administration, CAF is ongoing with FIFA on the comprehensive reforms of Nigerian football, including agreeing a road map going forward in accordance to the relevant rules books and statutes.”
The NSC delegation included its chairman Shehu Dikko, director-general Bukola Olapade, former NFF president Amaju Pinnick and interim NFF secretary general Emmanuel Ikpeme.
