A 70-year-old man Usman Abubakar has been placed under arrest by the Bauchi State police for allegedly luring an eight-years-old girl to an uncompleted building and sexually assaulted her.
The incident occurred on August 24 in the Tsakanin Bayara area of Bauchi metropolis. The suspected was arrested after the girl’s father reported to the police at the ‘E’ Division, Yelwa.
Bauchi Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib said operatives of the division arrested the suspect. Adding that during interrogation, Abubakar confessed to the offence. The victim was subsequently taken to the clinic for medical examination and necessary care.
The suspect is currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, where the case is undergoing discreet investigation preparatory to prosecution.
The command reiterated its zero tolerance for sexual violence and child abuse, while urging parents, guardians and members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station promptly.
