Chelsea confirmed the signing of the Emiliano Martinez on Saturday and on Sunday he was in action against Brighton in Chelsea’s 4-3 win at Stamford Bridge.
On the day opening day of the 2026/27 season Martinez was in goal for Aston Villa when Brighton pumped in four goals to make a bright start to their Premier League campaign, but on Sunday Martinez put up a good performance making two great saves after he was warmly welcomed by Chelsea fans.
Martinez a World Cup winner with Argentina in 2022 and played in the 2026 final against Spain signed a three-year contract with Chelsea.
“I’m delighted to be at this football club,’ Martinez said. ‘Coming to Chelsea, for me and my family, was an easy decision to make and I’m just over the moon,” he said.
“I want to be successful here. I’m someone who wants to win at everything I do, and I want to bring that here to this football club because it’s a football club that wins titles, so I think it’s a good match.
‘I’m all passion and I play with my heart. I will give 100 per cent every game, every training session to make the club, my teammates and the supporters proud.”
Martinez is regarded as one of best goalkeepers in the world. He made 256 appearances for Villa across six seasons and lifted the UEFA Europa League in May.
