Arsenal could in the coming days welcome Argentine striker Julian Alvarez to their fold, if Atletico Madrid’s unwillingness to let him go to Barcelona persist.
Barcelona, having identified Alvarez as a key player that could boost their attack, have tried all summer to make a deal with Atletico Madrid. But Diego Simeone’s side are not ready to lose one of their best players to a direct rival in the Spanish LaLiga.
And Alvarez himself seems to have made up his mind about joining Barcelona, but sensing that it wouldn’t happen, he is now open to teaming up with Mikel Arteta’s Gunners, according to Diario SPORT.
The report points out that Arsenal are being considered as an emergency option for Alvarez, a tool to use in his bid to leave Metropolitano if the Barcelona move does not work out.
The Catalans have already had their opening proposal of €100 million rejected by Atletico Madrid.
But Arsenal will be keeping a close tab, knowing they may have an outside chance of landing one of the most-sought after prospects in the transfer market.
Interestingly, Barcelona have been linked with a move for Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres, who could be one of the affected parties if Alvarez joins the Gunners.
