Nigeria’s women beach volleyball team Saturday beat Morocco 2-0 in the final African Beach Volleyball Nations Championship in Alexandria, Egypt, to qualify for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles USA.
It is the first time Nigeria will be qualifying for the Olympics beach volleyball. Players Esther Mbah and Pamela Bawa achieved the feat, and it is a handsome reward for Nigeria Volleyball Federation president Musa Nimrod’s drive to promote the sport with the buoyant support of Nigeria Customs Service Comptroller General Adewale Adeniyi.
Nimrod praised the team for making history after 16 years of trying to earn the Olympic qualification. Mbah and Bawa have steadily formed a partnership since winning the 2024 U-19 African Championship.
National Sports Commission director-general Bukola Olapade also sent his warm wishes to the team, the NVBF and the Customs boss for his support of the team.
“Congratulations to the Nigeria Volleyball Federation. This is true Federation leadership in true collaboration with the National Sports Commission (NSC).
“I want to specially thank the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, CGC Adewale Adeniyi MFR, for this success. We are grateful for your huge investment in volleyball.”
