The Nigerian film industry took centre stage at the Windsor International Black Film Festival (WIBFF) 2026 in Canada.
At this forum the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) delivered a strong and impactful representation that showcased the depth of Nigerian talent, celebrated industry excellence and opened fresh opportunities for Nollywood on the global stage.
A major highlight of AGN’s participation was the hosting of The Actors Marketplace (TAMP), a strategic initiative of the Guild designed to connect Nigerian actors and creative professionals with opportunities across the international entertainment industry.
The TAMP session provided an engaging platform for networking, knowledge exchange and conversations around the future of Nollywood, bringing together actors, filmmakers, industry professionals and international stakeholders.
In his welcome remarks, the National President of AGN, Alhaji Abubakar Sanusi Yakubu, said TAMP was conceived as part of the Guild’s broader vision to reposition the Nigerian actor within the global creative economy.
“TAMP is our bridge from Nollywood to the world. We want to create a marketplace where the Nigerian actor is not only seen, but discovered, engaged, celebrated and commercially connected to opportunities across the global creative industry.”
He noted that the initiative would facilitate international collaborations, professional development, investment opportunities, casting connections and greater access to global audiences for Nigerian actors.
Driving Conversations on the Future of Nollywood
Beyond TAMP, AGN played an active role in panel discussions examining the sustainable development of Nollywood and Nigeria’s wider creative sector.
The discussions focused on some of the industry’s most pressing issues, including sustainable financing, professionalisation, capacity building, international partnerships, intellectual property protection, distribution and the creation of stronger economic structures for creative practitioners.
The conversations also highlighted the enormous potential of Nigeria’s creative industry to contribute to employment, tourism, cultural diplomacy and economic development, while stressing the need for strategic partnerships among industry stakeholders, government and international organisations.
A Night of Historic Awards
The festival also provided a memorable celebration of Nigerian excellence, with several Nollywood personalities receiving prestigious honours for their contributions and outstanding performances.
Veteran actress Patience Ozokwo emerged as one of the biggest stars of the awards ceremony after receiving two Lifetime Achievement Awards—one from the Actors Guild of Nigeria and another from the Windsor International Black Film Festival.
The double honour recognised her remarkable career, enduring contribution to Nollywood and her influence as one of Nigeria’s most respected and celebrated actresses.
Dr. Ejezie Emeka Rollas was also recognised with two major honours, receiving the Leadership Award and the Best Male Actor Award for his contribution to the industry and his outstanding performance.
Another historic achievement came from filmmaker and actor Brown, whose acclaimed film, Ifediche, dominated the awards with an impressive six honours.
The feat reportedly made Brown the highest award winner in the history of the Windsor International Black Film Festival, further underscoring the growing international recognition of Nigerian creative works.
AGN Strengthens Nigeria’s Global Creative Footprint
The successful participation of the Actors Guild of Nigeria at WIBFF 2026 goes beyond the celebration of awards. It represents a strategic step towards strengthening the international visibility of Nigerian actors and expanding the global footprint of Nollywood.
Through TAMP and its participation in high-level industry conversations, AGN demonstrated its commitment to creating sustainable opportunities for its members while building bridges between Nigerian talent and the international creative marketplace.
The Windsor festival has consequently become another significant milestone in AGN’s drive to position the Nigerian actor for greater global recognition, collaboration and economic opportunity.
As the curtain fell on WIBFF 2026, one message stood out clearly: Nollywood is no longer simply telling African stories to the world—it is increasingly becoming an active player in the global creative marketplace
