Maazi Okechuku Augustine the Nigerian citizen arrested by the Ghanaian Police at the scene of a “bank robbery” has pleaded not guilty after being arraigned at an Accra Circuit Court Wednesday.
Prosecutors slapped eight count charges including conspiracy to commit robbery on the on Mr. Augustine. He pleaded not guilty to the charges, the trial judge refused his application for bail and was remanded in police custody till September 2, when the trial resumes.
According to the Ghana police Mr. Augustine and two other deceased suspects attempted to rob three banks in the Labone area of Accra on August 13. He was arrested after a shootout with the police.
Though the version of the police account of the event has been disputed, they maintained that the gang was plotting rob banks in the area.
