Osun State governor Ademola Adeleke said Wednesday that a N500 million endowment fund has been established for the victims of the violence that preceded the August 15 governorship elections in which he won a second term.
Mr. Adeleke revealed this development while receiving his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The fund will benefit all who lost their lives no matter their party affiliations.
“The Osun State Government has established 500-million-naira endowment fund in honour of victims of pre-election violence in Osun State,” said Adeleke.
“Adeleke family offers full scholarships to children of deceased up to university level. Victims are to cut across party lines.
“This is not a political intervention. It is a humanitarian responsibility. No eligible victim will be excluded because of political affiliation, religion, ethnicity, gender or social status. In grief, there is no political party. In our common humanity, we are one people.”
He added that it was now time to move from the rancorous elections in which over 18 people lost their lives.
“The election is over. The campaign is over. The contest is over. Now is the time to govern, unite, heal and build,” Adeleke said.
He further expressed sympathy for families who lost relatives during the violence and prayed for the recovery of people who sustained injuries.
