South African anti-migrant protesters Monday stormed the venue of the 46th Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit in Durban and demanding that visiting heads of states take their people home with them.
Ahead of the Summit which began on Sunday and ended on Monday, South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa had described anti-migrant protest, which rocked his country between June and July as shameful.
But this did not persuade demonstrators led by the March and March group. They went through the streets of Durban carrying placards which read: “It’s time to fetch your people.”
“South Africa is our home,” “President, illegal immigrants are killing us” and “take your minions with you.”
The March and March organisation said: “We are announcing the second wave of the 30 June National Day of Action and calling on the heads of state to prepare for the massive deportation of all illegal foreigners from South Africa by 30 September, which will be the mother of all protests.
“South Africans must follow the law and remain the eyes and ears of the police against any illegal foreigners in the country.”
The SADC is a gathering of Heads of State and Governments from the 16 countries in the Southern African region.
