“Calm Down” crooner Divine Ikubor a.k.a Rema said he would not consider fans preference in making his music.
He claimed that Afrobeats artists by not exploring other options will not be able to grow the genre from its present structure.
“I don’t care what you say about me. I don’t care if you like what I like,” Rema gushed out during a gig at the weekend.
“But I make music that I like before you like it. If I stick to what you like, Afrobeats is not going to move forward.”
He noted that as “Prince of Afrobeats” his mandate is to move the genre forward.
Rema whose hit song “Calm Down” was a worldwide anthem has failed to produce another song that could match that effort since 2022. Critics claimed that he is a one song wonder. His song “Ozeba” was described as a beautiful nonsense, but perhaps Rema in the coming days might come up with another hit that will prove his critics wrong.
