Coaches who are currently working or who recently worked with the sporting federations have been mandated to present their professional and academic qualifications.
The National Sports Commission through its Federal Elite Athlete Department made the call with a view of establishing a comprehensive data base of all coaches working or supporting the sporting federations.
The coaches are expected to submit their full names, coaching role national or age grade previously handled, academic and professional qualification diplomas, degrees, coaching licenses and certificates, course attended dates and venues and other relevant information on their coaching careers.
An August 19, 2026 deadline has been given to the coaches to submit their resume to their respective federations.
According to the NSC the exercise is more than a routine data request. “The NSC is begining to scrutinise who is being appointed to national teams, their qualifications, continuous career development,” said the memo to the coaches.
This development is a fallout of recent technical glitches, which played at the World Athletics Junior Championships were Nigerian athletes were disqualified for running out lanes and also wearing the wrong pair of spikes.
“For athletics this could become quite significant because it creates the basis for comparing coaching competence and credentials against National team appointments and athlete performances outcomes,” the memo added.
