Mr. Okechukwu Augustine was remanded in prison by the Accra Circuit Court following his arrest by the police at the scene of the crime.
According to the police Okechukwu Augustine and others who are now deceased allegedly plotted to rob some banks in the upscale Labone area of Accra on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
The police acting on intelligence moved in and foiled the attack and in the ensuing shootout with the suspects while they were trying to flee, two of the gang members were gunned down, while Okechukwu Augustin was nabbed. One other suspect was said to have escaped.
However, the police version of events appeared to have been disputed as one of the banks, denied there wasn’t any attempt to break in. According to other reports one of the vehicles used by the suspects had been previously impounded by the police.
Also, other sources claimed that the suspects weren’t trying to rob the banks, which are located in a well secured environment, but were laying an ambush for a bank customer who had gone in to make a huge withdrawal of cash, but the police arrived right on time thwart the crime.

One of the vehicles allegedly used by the gang, had been previoiusly impounded.
