Former African football great and Cameroon Football Federation president Samuel Eto’o has been made to breathe after the four-match suspension and $20,000 fine imposed on him after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations was overturned.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeal Board ruled in favour of the appeal filed by Fecafoot, following Eto’o objections to refereeing during the AFCON match between Cameroon and Morocco.
CAF disciplinary committee board had sanctioned the two-time Africa Footballer of the Year winner saying he violated the principles of integrity, loyalty, and sportsmanship set out in the governing body’s statutes and Disciplinary Code.
Upon reviewing the case, the Appeal Board ultimately decided to overturn these sanctions. The Cameroonian Football Federation welcomed the decision, viewing it as a demonstration of the independence of CAF’s judicial bodies and their commitment to applying the law objectively and fairly.
Fecafoot also reaffirmed its confidence in the Confederation’s judicial bodies, commending their commitment to upholding the principles of legality and independent sports justice, thereby serving the credibility of African football.
