President Bola Tinubu has received an interim report of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) investigation of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
The President had mandated the ICPC to unravel the circumstances surrounding the PFIPC in which his chief of staff Hon Femi Gbajabiamila allegedly demanded a kick from it’s “director-general” Adeniyi Adeyemi. The government later told the public that Adeyemi and the PFIPC were not in the books of Federal government agencies; but Adeyemi who is currently facing trial and in custody insisted that he had interactions with Hon Gbajabiamila.
ICPC chairman Musa Adamu Aliyu, said Thursday their investigations revealed that Mr. Adeyemi was not appointed by the Presidency.
“We have discovered and it has been established that Adeyemi Matthew was never appointed by the federal government or any authority of government and the PFIPC was never established by any law or executive order or other instrument of government, and the appointment letter presented by Adeyemi Matthew was completely forged alongside similar documents used to perpetuate the illegal activities of the fake agency.”
He added that Adeyemi was able to infiltrate the government because of weak oversights by concerned government aparatus.
“Also, our internal report found that there are weaknesses in verification, inter-agency oversight and government processes. We discovered that those weaknesses were exploited by Adeyemi with some level of negligence.”
The ICPC recommeded that Mr Adeyemi should be prosecuted, and public officers who failed to be at alert and stop the fraud be sanctions for their “ acts of omissions, negligence, facilitated the illegal operation of the council because our investigation found that some public officers failed to do due diligence.”
