2027 election: You can’t beat Tinubu with disunited opposition, group urges Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso, others to close ranks

Major opposition parties and figures have been urged to close ranks ahead of the 2027 elections if they hope to unseat President Bola Tinubu.
A group of 100 prominent Nigerian citizens, led by Malam Salihu Moh. Lukman, made the call Sunday in a seven-page letter stressing the need for the opposition figures to drop personal ambition for the sake of rescuing the country from its present prostrate position.
The group tagged G100 warned that democracy is dying because of a fragmented opposition, which is unable to check the excesses of the ruling party.
“While the executive consolidates power, the opposition fragments. While the people seek leadership, too many leaders pursue personal ambition. This is not merely the failure of political parties; it is the weakening of democracy itself,” the G100 said in a statement.
“Elections without genuine choice are ceremonies without substance,” the letter stressed. “A government that fears no opposition soon forgets the people. An opposition that cannot oppose soon forgets its purpose.”
The letter titled “The Doctrine of a Necessary Democratic Opposition,” was addressed to African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar; Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Peter Obi, former Senate President David Mark; NDC Presidential running mate Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso; and former Transportation Minister and ADC vice presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi.
Others include Seyi Makinde Allied Peoples Movement presidential candidate, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed; former Osun State Governor and National Secretary of ADC, Rauf Aregbesola; NDC National Leader Sen. Seriake Dickson; fractional Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki; Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) National Chairman and its presidential candidate, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed; Donald Duke; and Social Democratic Party (SDP) National Chairman and Presidential candidate Prof. Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gombe, alongside Prince Adewole Adebayo.
