Despite dropping his plan to sell off football stakes to private investors, European football’s governing body UEFA said Saturday that it has no confidence on FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
Mr. Infantino outraged the football family when he pushed forward a proposal that will allow investors to buy into the commercial rights of the World Cup and other competitions into a semi-private company launched by Joshua Kushner, the younger brother of US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
“The current FIFA leadership has not only lost UEFA’s confidence but also that of many other members of the football family,” said European football body UEFA, whose president Aleksander Čeferin.
“No option should be off the table.”
“We cannot keep going on like this with secret schemes on fast-track timescales, cooked up by faceless individuals and of dubious benefit to the game.
“We must identify those responsible and hold them to account.”
According to the European football governing body it would work with other associations to prevent a reoccurrence.
“It is right that, in the coming days and weeks, UEFA will work with its associations and in close cooperation with other confederations to reflect on how this happened and devise a plan to make sure that it cannot occur again.” With agency reports
